§ 2-134. Appointment; qualifications; oath; compensation.

  • The city attorney shall be appointed by the mayor, by and with the advice and consent of the city council, and shall serve until a successor is appointed and has qualified. No person shall be so appointed unless he is a member in good standing of the state bar and has been actively engaged in the practice of law for at least three years preceding his appointment. Before entering upon the duties of his office, the city attorney shall take the oath prescribed by this Code for city officers. The city attorney shall receive compensation in the amount established from time to time by the city council.
