§ 24-21. Scope of jurisdiction.

  • (a)

    The municipal court of the city shall try violations of city ordinances and shall have the power and authority to impose incarcerations or fines upon persons convicted of said offenses, with the alternative of other punishment allowed by law if such fines are not paid. Such punishment shall not exceed the maximum permitted by state law and this Code.

    (b)

    Punishment for contempt of court shall not exceed the maximum permitted by state law.
